# Motion

Motion is the action of changing location or position used in Physics (as opposed to moving in ordinary speech). One often has to deal with this term in reality to solve real-life problems.
First, you need to learn some basic terms. You probably know about position, distance and time. Use the link to watch a video lesson and find out what displacement, velocity and acceleration are.

Now, let’s solve some related problems.
1. Acceleration is crucial for racing. A racecar starts from rest and speeds up uniformly to the right until it reaches a maximum velocity of 60 m/s in 15 seconds.
What is the acceleration of the racecar?
Answer using a coordinate system where rightward is positive.
_____ m/s2

2. A teacher of physics living in New York usually goes to his favourite Japanese grocery store on Saturday. His route is shown on the map and follows these steps:
follow the Hudson River upriver 🡪 cross the river using the George Washington Bridge 🡪 reverse direction and head downriver
Work out the distance he walks and his actual displacement.
A Distance: ____ km
B Displacement: ____ km

3. To build an airport you need to calculate the length of the runway. An aeroplane accelerates down a runway at 3.20 m/s2 for 32.8 s until it finally lifts off the ground. Determine the distance travelled before takeoff:
____ m
